Welcome to Meg’s Army!
Marguerite (Meg or Megan) Ruth Glidden Robinson was not only a
warm-hearted woman, but a best friend to all and supplier of great wit and
knowledge. She could light up any room she walked into, make anyone laugh, and
bring out the best qualities in any person that crossed her path. Everyone knew
her by her actions and words, but we just knew her as Mom.
In 2001, she was diagnosed with cervical cancer, but that
didn’t stop her from fighting it. Mom fought with all she had because she
wanted and needed to be there for her family. Though the chemo treatments wore
her out, she still managed to make us smile and laugh daily because she was
strong. And even when we felt like giving up, she never did.
Unfortunately in 2003, Mom lost her battle with cancer and
was taken to heaven. She left behind three girls and a husband, who still love
and miss her but live on with the values, memories and love she left behind.
Even though she isn’t here physically, she will always live within our hearts.
Through her battle, she taught us to never give up; that the
things in this world worth fighting for are the most important. So in honor of
our mother, we are running the San Diego 5K and half marathon to raise funds
for cervical cancer research. Our goal is to bring awareness and knowledge to a
cancer that is still relatively unknown, and take steps towards finding a cure
for those who have been diagnosed so that families all over the world won’t
have to lose a mother, daughter, grandmother, aunt, or best friend.
In lieu of that goal, we’re trying to raise $500 and would
love your support. From financial donations or buying our Meg’s Army t-shirts to providing loving, encouraging words or
becoming a member of the running team, we are grateful for anything you can
give. And if you want to come down to San Diego to cheer us on, we would love
that even more!
The race is August 19, 2012, and we are training and getting
ready for a day dedicated to the woman that made us who we are. The person who
instilled our moral compasses, our loving hearts, sense of humor, and most
importantly a desire to stand and fight for something important to us. We
invite you on this journey for the next few months. And if you have pictures or
stories about our mother, you are more than welcome to post them.
We appreciate you stopping by for this cause that is near and
dear to our hearts.
Sincerely,
Kaitlin, Melissa and Jaramie Robinson
